EDP 2138 – Reliability & Maintainability Engineer

Overview

Whiteflare is recruiting an experienced Reliability & Maintainability (R&M) Engineer to support a high-priority UK Defence programme delivering the next generation of self-propelled artillery capability. Working across demonstrator, qualification, long-lead and production activity, you will provide specialist R&M expertise throughout the engineering lifecycle. You will review technical evidence, assess contractor and trial data, support assurance and acceptance activities, and help ensure demanding reliability, maintainability, testability and through-life support objectives are achieved. This is an influential role offering the opportunity to shape design decisions, reduce programme risk and improve operational availability on a major land systems programme.

Specific job skills

• Reviewing R&M artefacts, cases and supporting evidence across multiple systems and subsystems.
• Analysing contractor and trial data to assess reliability, maintainability and dependability performance.
• Producing technical review reports, performance trends, risk assessments and recommendations.
• Identifying reliability-growth and supportability improvement opportunities.
• Supporting R&M demonstrations, verification, validation, test activity and design reviews.
• Managing R&M risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies, including escalation where cost, schedule, safety or performance may be affected.
• Conducting root-cause analysis of significant design weaknesses and tracking corrective actions.
• Supporting engineering governance and assurance activity, including assessment of compliance with R&M policy, processes and standards.

Essential skills and experience

• Demonstrable experience in Reliability and Maintainability engineering within complex, safety-critical or regulated systems.
• Proven ability to review contractor-supplied R&M documentation and technical artefacts against contractual requirements and applicable standards.
• Experience analysing dependability, contractor and trial data to assess performance, identify trends and recommend improvements.
• Sound knowledge of R&M policies, processes and standards, including their relationship with quality, safety, security, sustainability and subsystem interoperability.
• Experience supporting R&M demonstration, verification, validation, trials and technical reviews against defined acceptance criteria.
• Ability to identify, assess and clearly communicate R&M risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies, including potential effects on cost, schedule, performance and safety.
• Experience contributing to root cause analysis and managing corrective actions arising from reliability, maintainability or design weaknesses.
• Strong technical reporting and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to support engineering assurance, governance and acceptance decisions.

Desired skills and experience

• Experience within UK Defence, land systems, artillery, armoured vehicles or similarly complex platform programmes.
• Knowledge of dependability cases, reliability growth, maintainability analysis, testability and through-life support planning.
• Experience producing R&M performance reports, trend analysis, dashboards, review reports and supporting assurance evidence.
• Familiarity with contractor compliance assessment, non-conformance management, programme risk registers and technical governance forums.
• Experience supporting certification, system acceptance or entry-into-service decisions.
• Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers and collaborative procurement environments.
